How The CNC Rotary Table Has Made The World A Much Smaller Place
The computer numerically controlled (CNC) rotary table has played a big part in forming the world that we live in today and yet many will have no idea of what it is. Utilised in the process of forming metal components, the equipment has served to greatly improve manufacturing capabilities in many sectors.
Understanding the machine
A regular rotary table serves to clamp a metal object in place so that machining tools, such as drills and cutters, can be brought into contact with the surface to form the required component. The advent of the CNC rotary table meant that newer models could be guided automatically in accordance with pre-programmed coordinates. As we have already stated, the CNC rotary table is employed in all manner of manufacturing environments. However, it has perhaps had the biggest impact in the production of vehicles.
The ability to produce components with such excellent precision has meant that planes, boats, automobiles and trains have all become more reliable and safer. The ability to output components in greater quantities means that production costs have also reduced. The knock on effect being that vehicles can be delivered to both consumers and companies at affordable rates.
A smaller world
Due to the fact that vehicles are not costing travel companies extortionate amounts of money, they are able to offer travel at affordable levels. Another benefit is that suppliers can transport their items throughout the country and further afield without charging excessive carriage fees. Had the CNC rotary table never been invented then the world today would be a very different place. The expense and lack of vehicles would have seen travel restricted to only the very wealthy, as it was in the past. It is also likely that global trade would be greatly affected, with many countries producing goods mainly for internal consumption.
