FixR.com... my new favorite site for projects & contractors!

"Holy let-me-get-my-hands-on-this-remodel batman!" Talk about a contractor's dream...

FixR.com first appeared on my radar a couple of months ago when I was looking for a marketplace site to register some home improvement work I needed to have done.  While “Googling” and “Binging” around the web, I was pretty shocked that there were not an abundance of sites offering a location for folks with projects and money to meet contractors with experience and bills.  What I did find however was FixR.

how_fixr_worksWith a “things done, money saved” mantra, the two founders of FixR, Andres Torrubia and Arvin Abarca saw a hole in the market last September when they decided to start the company.

Both Arvin Abarca and myself were perplexed by the fact that nobody had leveraged the web potential to create a marketplace in the home improvement market.  In our opinion, if there was a market that could benefit from an open, transparent competitive bidding model, this was it. We thought that there is a definitive opportunity and a win-win situation if we could align the contractor and homeowner’s interest in the most effective and efficient way… and along came fixR.”

Launching the service in Massachusetts, the response has been overwhelming, with over 1000 home improvement contractors using the site… as a result, they are now expanding to other states.

Got your attention? Here’s the inside scoop on how to get the best gigs on FixR… straight from the proverbial horse
  • In general, the jobs that have good descriptions, containing measurements and/or pictures get the most bids.
  • In terms of types of jobs wanted, there’s definitely seasonality involved… a lot of swimming pools, landscaping and gardening jobs right now. We expect to see heating jobs in the coming months.
  • Good news for the honest contractor: the consumer will value a work well done at a fair price more now than ever.
  • Don’t spend your money purchasing leads or in marketing fliers sent door to door.  Now, with the internet contractors can find new jobs online and sell their services based on their reputation (which is publicly accessible via online reviews).

Jabba the Hut needs a Plumber

Definitely a site for the serious contractors and project managers, I happened to find some of the funnier project posts hidden around the site.  Interested in building a shoe closet for bigfoot or doing a little interior decorating for superman… look no further.  I’ve found your gigs!

Oh and last but not least… check out my score on the FixR Hurricane Challenge and see if you can’t beat the Junky!!!
