Happy Canada Day! Today, July 1 is a day of merriment for the 33, 699, 777 Canadians that frequent our globe. A day for BBQ’s, good beer and hopefully a little dock time at the cottage. Those of us not so lucky to be near a dock in Canada or a Canadian, can take a moment to learn a thing or two about how those folks from the great white north run their renovations!
First off, a quick search online provides a number of well researched, factual home improvement sites. If you or your crazy friends are looking for how-to’s, a Canadian contractor or even a little Canadian humor (that’s humour in Canada) I would heartily endorse the following:
- The Handy Canadian – post a project, find a contractor, get advice
- The 2010 Canadian Home Improvement Show – A great spot for anyone from anywhere schlepping anything to head!
- Want to know what it costs (or what you should be bidding) for work in Canada. Check out the Home Improvement Cost Index for Canada from the All Around the House site.
- If you’re not from Canada just stop reading here… b/c leave it to the Canadians to take the cake on home grants and tax credits for renovations, additions and pretty much any or all home improvements related to energy efficiency (Details here).
- Finally – no list of Canadian home improvement finds would be complete without mention of that vestige of Canadian Remodelers: Canadian Tire. Not a tire store… just a great place to hangout out on Saturday… think Lowes + Home Depot with a great fishing section!

What are the folks saying?
